Does the location of a laser peripheral iridotomy (LPI) affect dysphotopsia symptoms?

A new study asks the question:  Is a superior LPI better than a nasal/temp LPI in preventing dysphotopsias?
The short answer?  No.

The study details: Over 500 patients with angle closure glaucoma or suspected angle closure underwent LPI’s.  Half of them had superior LPI’s and the other half had nasal/temp placed LPI’s.  The study found no difference in post-op dysphotopsia symptoms.

One interesting finding:  Angle closure glaucoma patients were nearly 3 times more likely to report new post-LPI dysphotopsias compared to suspected angle closure patients.
