Alcon ends UPP effective immediately.

Why?
In 2015, Utah passed the Contact Lens Consumer Protection Act to basically stop UPP.  Alcon fought it (along with Vistakon and B&L) claiming it violated the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution.  That sounded like a good argument but on December 19th the court didn’t buy it and decided to uphold the Act.
