The Heidelberg Spectralis with OCT2 Module was just successfully installed on the International Space Station. It is replacing the OCT that has been there since 2013.
Why does one need an OCT in space?
Because of something called Space Flight Associated Neuro-Ocular Syndrome (SANS). It’s not a well understood condition but astronauts experience swelling in the choroid and optic nerve after long duration space flights. The hope is that this newer OCT technology can better identify why that happens and develop preventative measures for future space travel. (via)
