Legislative Update.

SB 668 was recently passed in the Senate to expand the scope of practice in Pennsylvania.

A few features of the bill include:
-the use of the term “Doctor” rather than Doctor of Optometry
-the ability to remove foreign bodies
-the ability to prescribe hydrocodone and codeine (previously schedule III drugs but now are schedule II drugs)
-draining of superficial eyelid cysts

The Pennsylvania Medical Society has expressed opposition to this bill.
