The gold contact lens is back in the news.

A new startup says they can prevent glaucoma by using a contact lens implanted with traces of gold.
How would that work?
A special pair of glasses transmits a signal to the gold in the contacts. The signal is converted into a current which is used to electrically stimulate the muscles around Schlemm’s canal. This decreases the impedance of fluid flow and thus decreases IOP.
This was in the news a few months ago but is back in the news because the company will be starting a 30 patient clinical trial in Canada. They also said they have developed a way to do this with just glasses only. (via)
