Optometry Podcast: Dr. Clark Chang Interview

When it comes to cornea and contact lenses, few doctors have made as big an impact on the field in as short time as Dr. Clark Chang.  A 2007 graduate from PCO, Dr. Chang is currently the Director of Cornea Specialty Lenses at Wills Eye Hospital, and the Director of Clinical Services at Vision Group Holdings (which includes TLC and The Laser Vision Institute).  His passion for fitting specialty contact lenses for those with corneal conditions like keratoconus is contagious, and he has plenty of advice in this week’s podcast to help get you started in this specialty!

The best way to bring specialty contact lenses into your practice is to get help and seek mentorship.  No doctor needs to go it alone.  There can be a steep learning curve on these lenses, and joining organizations that offer training and support can help you get off to the best start.
  • International Keratoconus Academy offers education and new scientific research updates for its members to keep you up to date on the world of keratoconus and specialty lens correction.
  • Gas Permeable Lens Institute (GLPI)  offers education and webinars directly on their website, culminating in the destination contact lens education symposium, the GSLS (Global Specialty Lens Symposium) that brings

  • The Scleral Lens Education Society offers online education, as well as a private forum for its members to share tips and offer mentorship and advice on difficult fits.
  • The National Keratoconus Foundation is a great source for patient information on the condition!  Point your patients to this website as your trusted source of up to date information about their diagnosis.
  • For more information about what’s going on in the world of corneal disease, including surgical procedures, consider joining the Optometric Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Society. You’ll have access to education and weekly newsletters from the leading minds in the field.
