The Fairness to Contact Lens Consumer Act is back in the news.

Two senators are urging the FTC to move forward with the proposed changes to the Act.
What are the proposed changes?
1. Providers must have all contact lens patients sign an acknowledgement that states,
“My eyecare professional provided me with a copy of my contact lens prescription at the completion of my contact lens fitting. I understand I am free to purchase contact lenses from the seller of my choice”.
2. Prescribers must also keep a copy of this signed acknowledgment for three years.
However the FTC, probably much like your office, is short staffed. Only two of the five FTC commissioner positions are filled so the review process is taking longer.
