Can I get contacts that shoot laser beams?
Scientists in Scotland have developed an ultra-thin membrane laser that can be placed on a contact lens and emit a low-intensity green laser beam. The research team says this could have applications as a “wearable security tag where they may complement authentication via an iris scan”. (via)

A United Kingdom research team is developing one. The team tinted soft contacts with a non-toxic dye (derived from rhodamine). They found the dye enabled better differentiation between red and green colors. They are hoping to begin human clinical trials soon. (via)
